About Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is an easy and effective way to finally get rid of unwanted hair. At The Spa at  Charlottesville Plastic Surgery, we use the Forever Young BBL with the Sciton Joule laser system for laser hair removal. The laser targets the hair follicles in the treatment area, leading the hair to thin and, eventually, eliminating the unwanted body hair altogether.

Who is a Candidate?

Laser hair removal at The Spa is effective for almost everyone. Unlike other lasers used to remove unwanted hair, the Sciton Joule laser system can be used on all skin types and skin colors.\

Since this treatment targets melanin in the hair shaft and follicle, it may not be ideal for patients with extremely light hair colors. Your provider will determine if this is the right treatment for you at your consultation.

The Laser Hair Removal Treatment

Your laser hair removal treatment will begin with your provider cleaning the treatment area. From there, they will use a specialized handheld device and pass it over the treatment area. The laser system will target each hair follicle. The Forever Young BBL treatment also has cooling technology to ensure you are completely comfortable throughout the procedure. The treatment session will take 45 minutes to an hour. Afterward, you will be able to go back to your normal routine immediately.

Recovery

Following laser hair removal treatment, you may experience some slight redness, but it will subside within a few hours. Additionally, while there is no downtime required, you will want to avoid excess sun exposure and use at least a SPF 30 to protect your skin from the sun.

As time goes by and the hair follicles die, the hair shaft will shed away, leaving your skin softer, smoother, and hairless. To eliminate all the hair in the treatment area, you’ll likely need multiple treatment sessions. After each session, you’ll see fewer and fewer hairs.
