What is Earlobe Repair?
Earlobe repair is performed to restore the original appearance of the earlobes after they have torn or become misshapen. Elongated ear holes and split earlobes may be caused by wearing heavy earrings over long periods of time, earrings that get caught or pulled on clothing, gauges that are placed in the earlobe, multiple piercings that are placed too close together, or sudden trauma to the earlobe. Both men and women who are looking to restore their earlobes to their natural appearance can benefit from this procedure.

The Earlobe Repair Procedure
Earlobe repair is typically done on an outpatient basis using local anesthesia. The earlobe will first be thoroughly cleansed, and anesthesia applied. The specific method of repair will vary depending on the individual case and the amount of tissue that was lost. However, generally, excess skin is removed, and tissues are moved to recreate a more natural-looking earlobe. The incisions are then closed in layers to take tension off of the outer part of the incision, resulting in a fine and barely noticeable scar.

Following earlobe repair, you may experience mild discomfort for the first couple of days. This can be treated with over-the-counter pain medications. Most people can return to work the next day. Dr. Willis will give you recovery instructions regarding how to care for your surgical site during recovery. If you wish to re-pierce your ear following earlobe repair, we advise that you wait at least three months, and the new piercing should not be directly over the old piercing site.
