Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that are injected under the skin to smooth out lines and creases, restore lost volume, or enhance facial contours. They are often created with hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a naturally occurring substance in the body that attracts and binds water, which results in added volume.

Dermal fillers can be used to treat many different issues, including:

  • Lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth.
  • Lost youthful volume in the cheeks or mid-face area.
  • Vertical lip lines.
  • Thin or thinning lips.

What to Expect With Dermal Fillers

At Charlottesville Plastic Surgery, you have the benefit of receiving injectables and fillers at a plastic surgeon-owned and operated medspa. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Willis and our injector will discuss your options for dermal fillers to develop a customized treatment plan that meets your goals.

During a dermal filler appointment, a topical numbing cream will first be applied to the treatment area to ensure that you are comfortable during the injections. Then, the dermal filler of your choice will be skillfully injected using a very fine needle into the appropriate areas. Overall treatment time will vary depending on the number of treatment areas and the amount of change desired.

There is no downtime needed after derma filler injections, though temporary swelling, redness, bruising, and tenderness may occur. We do advise that you avoid strenuous activity directly after treatment until the swelling goes down.
