About Upneeq

Upneeq is a prescription eyedrop made from an oxymetazoline hydrochloride ophthalmic solution 0.1. It is the only FDA-approved eyedrop for the treatment of acquired ptosis or drooping upper lids. Low-lying eyelids not only create an aged or tired appearance but can also impact your field of vision, making it difficult to read, drive, or use a computer. The oxymetazoline in the Upneeq eyedrops triggers muscle contractions in the Mueller’s muscle in the upper eyelid. As the muscle contracts, the upper eyelid will be slightly pulled up by 1-4mm, creating a refreshed appearance.

Upneeq can be used to improve the following:

  • Droopy upper eyelids
  • Tired or aged appearance
  • Field of vision

Who is a Candidate?

Adult men and women who want a non-surgical eyelid lift are the best candidates for Upneeq. Botox-induced droopy eyelids are also treated with Upneeq eyedrops. Upneeq can open the eyelid giving the appearance of a more awake and younger look.

Patients who have heart disease or high blood pressure might not be a candidate since the Upneeq formula can affect blood pressure. Dr. Willis will discuss your medical history with you at your consultation to determine whether you are a candidate. All non-surgical procedure procedures, including Upneeq, are performed at our plastic surgeon-owned and operate medspa where you can rely on Dr. Willis’ expert care.

The Upneeq Treatment

Upneeq is an at-home treatment that only takes a few minutes each morning. Your prescription eyedrops will come in a single-use vial for easy use. Simply snip off the top of the packet with scissors, gently pull the lower lid down, and apply one drop to each eye. Be careful not to let the packaging touch your eye since it could cause eye irritation. After applying each drop, keep your eye closed for about 1 minute so that the drops stay in your eye.

Recovery

There is no recovery or downtime needed after applying your Upneeq eyedrops. The only thing you will have to do is wait 15 minutes to put your contacts back in if you wear them. You should also take your contacts out prior to using Upneeq. Results can be seen in as little as 10 minutes and will last for up to 10 hours. Eye redness and blurred vision are rare side effects but if they do occur, please call our office or your doctor immediately.
